Groups and communities
For osteopaths, access to a community of colleagues who have the shared experience of training and working in osteopathy can offer an invaluable network of support. This may be particularly so for osteopaths who work largely alone, either as sole practitioners or in remote areas. An osteopathic community in your area can provide an opportunity for local osteopaths to get to know each other, benefit from professional networking or serve as a CPD hub. It can also provide a forum for peer discussion, lectures, and sharing clinical expertise.
See below for a map and list of the regional groups in each region of the UK. You can also find this list on the o zone together with contact details. Regional groups provide inexpensive CPD for osteopaths, they also encourage osteopaths to work together for the benefit of the whole profession and reduce the risks associated with working in isolation.
Is there nothing in your region or range of interest? If so, have you thought about setting up your own group? You might also find this case study about setting up a virtual group useful.

Meeting with osteopaths and getting to properly understand the concerns and challenges they face in practice is a top priority for the GOsC. If you can gather a reasonable number of colleagues or would like a representative from the GOsC to attend a forthcoming meeting of your local or regional group, or if you’d like further information on how the GOsC can support you to establish a new group, please contact Jess Davies.
If you don’t have a local or regional group near you, why not think about setting up a new one?
