Completing your CPD cycle
When you reach the end of your three-year CPD cycle you will be expected to:
- have completed and recorded 90 hours of CPD, 45 of which should be ‘learning with others’
- covered all four themes of the Osteopathic Practice Standards
- have done at least one objective activity
- and covered communication and consent
- have completed your Peer Discussion Review
When you are approaching the end of your three-year CPD cycle, you might find it helpful to review the following information.
Completing your Peer Discussion Review
Before the end of your three-year cycle you will need to complete a Peer Discussion Review (PDR) – a structured conversation about your CPD and practice in a safe space between you and a peer of your choice.
There are lots of resources to help you plan and complete your PDR available on the Peer Discussion Review page of this website.
You can also read a blog from Lorraine Palmer, GOsC’s Registration and International Applications Officer, answering the frequent questions we receive from osteopaths who are planning to complete their Peer Discussion Review.
Reflect on your CPD records and keep them safe
You must keep your Peer Discussion Review template and your CPD records safe. Your CPD records should cover the CPD activities you have completed over the three-year period including all evidence, such as notes, reflections and certificates. You can reflect on and record your CPD activities in any way that works for you.
Find out more about keeping CPD records.
You can also read a blog from Lorraine Palmer explaining what counts as evidence of your CPD activities.
You may need to share some of this evidence with us if you are selected randomly as part of our Verification and Assurance process. Find out more about this process on our Verification and Assurance page.
Please remember that you don’t need to send your CPD records or your Peer Discussion Review template to GOsC unless we request it as part of the verification process.
Complete your registration renewal at your usual time
You don’t need to renew your registration on the date your CPD cycle ends, instead you just need to renew your registration in the usual way before your registration renewal date.
You can log into the o zone for details of your registration renewal date but we will also email you three months before your renewal date to remind you that it’s coming up.
When you come to renew your registration, you’ll need to explain how many hours of CPD and which elements of the CPD scheme you have completed in the previous 12 months, and you can do this on the self-declaration form. You will also need to include completion of the Peer Discussion Review.
Remember, you don’t need to submit anything else to us unless we request it.
You can find out more about renewing your registration by logging into the o zone.
